The Shopify platform powers more than 1.75 million ecommerce stores globally, and has long been one of the most robust ecommerce platforms for merchants of all sizes. There are more than 6,000 marketplace apps that let merchants create customized shopping experiences for their brands – everything from sourcing to marketing and customer support to fulfillment. That’s why we’re purpose-built exclusively within Shopify, to better support brands in streamlining and automating their return experience.

Now, Shopify’s leveled up even more with a host of new features that will help businesses scale for the next era of commerce.

Shopify introduced their new updates in a new biannual showcase, Editions. You can read the full announcement here, but here’s a brief synopsis of some of the key highlights:

  • B2B on Shopify
Shopify is well known as a B2C platform – but this launch makes it easy for merchants to sell wholesale to other businesses as well, unlocking billions in untapped revenue. Shopify merchants can customize their existing store for B2B merchants, with fixed wholesale prices and flexible B2B-focused payment options, plus integrations with ERPs including NetSuite, Brightpearl, and Acumatica.

  • Tokengated commerce
Build a community around your store by enabling customers to connect their crypto wallets, and provide special rewards and benefits for NFT token holders.

  • Twitter shopping
Now, all Shopify merchants can connect with the Twitter Shopping ecosystem for free, enabling customers to use social media links to shop directly from the merchant’s Twitter profile.
  • Tap to Pay on iPhone
Many Shopify merchants also have an offline presence, and by enabling the “tap to pay” feature on iPhone as an integration with the platform, merchants are able to make it easier for their in-person customers to buy their products no matter where they are – at a flea market, farmer’s market, or store.

  • Sync local inventory on Google
As more Shopify merchants combine online and offline shopping channels, it’s important for merchants to be able to showcase local inventory to customers in an easy pickup range. Shopify’s new local inventory tool makes it easy to push your product availability and location to Google Shopping, so that customers can choose whichever method is easiest to get their item.

  • Shopify Functions
Finally, the biggest game-changer is the ability to fully customize your Shopify platform, with Shopify Functions. Shopify Functions empowers developers to extend or replace Shopify’s backend logic with custom code, providing the flexibility of an open source-platform paired with Shopify’s support, security, and scalability. Developers will be able to develop custom back-end code for their own brand, or even offer their solutions in the Shopify app store, unlocking countless new ways to customize your ecommerce experience.

All of these new features – and many more in the making – will make it easier than ever for merchants to offer highly customized and scalable shopping experiences, both online and off. And with a robust app ecosystem including partners like Loop, you’ll have the tools to create a best-in-class, optimized experience that helps your store run more smoothly and provides customers with all the flexibility and benefits they’re seeking.
